Nature Becomes Art in February: Anne Forbes Van Nest Exhibit at WPL

The Weston Public Library’s “gallery” will bring outside in for the exhibit taking place from February 2-28. Local artist Anne Forbes Van Nest will be displaying some of the figures she has made out of sticks, branches, leaves, seed pods, stones and other natural objects.

“I’ve been making figures for years now out of things I find in the woods,” said Anne. “My purpose in sharing them is to encourage others to have a new perspective on their surroundings when they take a walk.”

In particular, these figures resonate with the youngest audience: “Children have taken to this very well. An example is when I see a stick that I think looks like a pair of legs and I ask them what they see,” Anne explains. “I get some very interesting responses. I may be opening their eyes but they open mine as well. I hope that after seeing my creations adults, too, will start taking another look around them.”

The artist’s reception is February 4, 2-4 pm at the Weston Public Library Community Room. The exhibit will be up from February 2-28 at the WPL, 87 School Street.
